Plays of Sophocles

Sophocles is considered to be one of the greatest tragedians of all time, Sophocles' plays often explore the complexities of human experience and the struggle for meaning in a world seemingly governed by fate. His most famous works, Oedipus Rex and Antigone, deal with characters who grapple with difficult choices and face devastating consequences. In Oedipus Rex the principal protagonist confronts his unknowing incest and patricide, leading to a profound sense of isolation and despair. In Antigone, the heroine defies societal norms to follow her own moral compass, sacrificing her life for her brother. Both plays raise timeless questions about free will, destiny, and the individual's place in the universe.
